Rudy 'MVP Tutor' Jaramillo
"Rudy 'MVP Tutor' Jaramillo attended and played baseball for Sunset High School and went on to play for the University of Texas and enjoyed a brief minor league career. He is now considered one of the best hitting coaches in baseball. With the Rangers since 1994 and in 2009 went to the Cubs.


Stevie Ray Vaughan
"Blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan attended Kimball High School, but spent time jamming at Sunset with several band friends. He was featured on a 1971 compilation album, A NEW HI, in a band called 'Cast of Thousands.' His Sunset friends & their band, 'Stonecypher' were also on that album. Born in 1954 at Methodist Hospital, he picked up the guitar in 1963. He joined the Nightcrawlers in 1973, the Cobras in 1974, and Triple Threat in 1977. He renamed his group 'Double Trouble' in 1980 and signed with Epic Records in 1982. They released the album Texas Flood 1983 and Vaughan won his first Grammy in 1984. Vaughan died in a helicopter crash on August 27 1990. He is buried in Oak Cliff at Laurel Land.


Ken Pritchett
Ken Pritchett-graduated 1956 from Sunset. He is a builder known all across the country and has served as President of the National Home Builders Association, the Dallas Home Builders Assoc, as well as the Duncanville Home Builders Assoc.


Jerry Rhome
Jerry Rhome (Sunset High School, ’60) was both high school and NCAA All-American and runner-up for the 1964 Heisman Trophy. His father, Coach Byron Rhome, coached at Sunset from 1938-1941 and 1946-1966.


Lee H. Smith
Sunset'53-Southwest State University ex-president Lee H. Smith was the first Ph.D. graduate in the statistics department at Texas A&M in 1964 and has had a distinguished career in statistical research, educational administration and business management.


Robert Folsom
Robert Folsom, graduate of Sunset, was Dallas Mayor form 1977 to 1981. He was also was the only four sport letterman in SMU athletics history and was a member of Sunset's 1944 State Basketball Championship Team.

Bronco Bowl opened in 1962. This entertainment Mecca included something for everyone- slot cars, bowling, pool, archery and golf. Don’t forget the snack bar, dancing at the “The Pit,” and those great concerts featuring performers like the Everly Brothers, REM, U2, Clash, B-52's, BB King and many more. And yeah, it was a bowling alley too.

Austin’s Bar-B-Cue (owned by Austin Cook) near the corner of Hampton Road and Illinois Avenue, served up good, old fashioned, barbecue sandwiches, with large tumblers of iced tea, and the greasiest French fries around.
